Snapping, crackling, sparkling and spluttering;

The bonfires are blazing, hissing and muttering.

    Spitting, sparking, gleaming and dancing;

    Flames like wild horses, eagerly prancing.

Flames that are roaring, curling and swirling;

Flashing, flickering, frantically whirling.

    Fires which attack, fires which defend;

    The dangerous killer but also man’s friend.

Fires that cook food for human consumption;

Fires that seem proud and full of presumption;

    Fires which bring warmth, comfort and light.

    My fire and your fire burns brightly tonight.
