I met someone nice today.

I said I met someone nice today.

    Please - I'm over here – look!

    No, not in your book.

I met someone nice today.

Someone smiled at me today.

Someone smiled at me I say! -

    With a warm friendly smile,

    And a kindly profile.

Someone smiled at me today.

Someone spoke to me today

With a voice very sunny and gay.

    With more than a grunt

    Or two words, very blunt.

Someone spoke to me today.

Someone had time to listen.

Someone had time to listen!

They were not in great haste

    With no time to waste.

I said someone found time to listen.

We're meeting again tomorrow.

I said we're meeting again tomorrow.

      I thought I'd drop you a word -

But I doubt if you heard-

We're meeting again tomorrow!

I didn't think too much of this poem when I wrote it in my very early days of writing, and yet my neighbour's daughter thought it was "spot on" as she put it.  "Dad never listens to what I say." hmmm  Teachers and children obviously liked this poem too because they chose it as one of almost 400 poems which were published in 2010.  It is in my book:  "Josie's Poems - Reflections" published by AMS Educational Publishers Ltd, Leeds.   So writers, you can never tell what your audience likes unless you try your work on them, as I did, first and foremost.  Josie
