So what makes a person a poet?
And what constitutes a good verse?
Is “rhythm” a part of your nature –
Or perhaps you may find it a curse?
Is rhyming a “must” in your poem?
In free verse it’s missing you know -
But if you’re writing a poem for children,
I think you should give it a go.
Alliteration is something quite pleasant,
And personification is nice.
Throw a simile into your poem -
It’s rather like adding some spice.
Now don’t try to hide from those big words.
Onomatopoeia’s high on the list,
Have I overlooked something important?
If so you can add what I’ve missed.
