WINNER OF THE MINIBEAST COMPETITION 2013

THE CROSSOVER INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY, GHANA

WHO PERFORMED "MR WORM"

COMPETITION PAGE Mr Worm

The Children of The Crossover International Academy, Ghana, you would think, had been stripped of everything that most children have in life.  They were child labourers, orphans, rescued trafficked children, etc

This year, I was told, storms wrecked their school and rain ruined their dormitories.  Malaria followed and misery - - - - but their headmaster, who tells me I'm affectionately known as Auntie Josie by the children, said:

". . . . but Auntie, it would make your heart fill with sweet emotion to see that, despite all their troubles, the hope that they will win your competition keeps them going and  you can see them going round here clicking their fingers and chanting "Mr Worm lives his life deep underneath the ground."

I actually had very few entries for my competition, but when I saw the film they sent to me how could I but make them winners?  This summer their crops of soya beans failed and they have been hungry and wondering where their next meal will come from - but still they had hope in their hearts.

They want you to see that even the poorest, most lowly of children in this world can still hold their heads up high and reach for a dream, and I hope you will agree that they've done their best.  My poem "On Being the Best" must surely have struck a chord.

This school has now been sponsored by The Pegasus School, Huntingdon, California and you might like to read about this here, but if your school could possibly send them a donation to help them in any way, or some presents for the children for Christmas, oh, they would so appreciate it.
